DEFOE STARS FOR SPURS

Jermain Defoe was the star of the Tottenham team, as he helped them to finally bring an end to the poor run of form they have been experiencing in recent weeks.

Tottenham were coming into the match against West Ham United on the back of three consecutive defeats in the Premier league. This has almost destroyed their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

They are currently a few points behind Arsenal, and a bad result yet again in the match against West Ham would have been to final nail in the coffin. However, the former West Ham striker Jermain Defoe scored against his former club to help Tottenham to get their first victory in three matches.

Jermain Defoe scored his first goal of the match just a few minutes before the break. This was the crucial goal of the match because it helped Tottenham to play with much more freedom and space in the second half. Gareth Bale soon doubled Tottenham’s advantage in the match by scoring in the 58th minute. Then, Jermain Defoe scored his second goal of the match shortly afterwards to give Tottenham a comfortable lead in the match. The lead was so comfortable that the goal by Andy Carroll late in the match proved to be only a consolation for West Ham.

“We played two away games at top teams [Manchester City and Arsenal] and played well but didn’t get the results we wanted. Getting back to winning ways was extremely important. Defoe is a great player in a great moment of form. His desire and hunger are immense. He works hard and lives off scoring. He’s having a great season,” said the Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas after the match. The result has lifted Tottenham to the seventh position in the league.

SPURS BEAT READING

Tottenham Hotspur has defeated Reading F.C. by 3-1 at Madejski Stadium. It was an easy victory for the Spurs. The English striker, Jermain Defoe, scored two goals for Tottenham. The match was seen by a large number of Tottenham fans and the team didn’t disappoint the supporters.

More than 24,000 people were present there in the stadium to watch this encounter. The scores were levelled at 1-1 till the 70th minute of the match, but, the Spurs played brilliantly in the last 20 minutes and took the match away from Reading. This was the first victory for the Spurs in this season.

Tottenham was off to a fantastic start in the match. Jermain Defoe took the Spurs ahead by scoring his first goal in the match in the 18th minute. That goal was a result of the team effort of the Tottenham players. Sigurdsson passed the ball to Aaron Lennon who beat a couple of midfielders and gave Defoe a terrific cross near the box. Defoe swept the ball powerfully and the ball went into the bottom corner of the net. Alex McCrathy, the goalkeeper of Reading, couldn’t do anything. That was the only goal to be scored in the first half.

The lead of Tottenham was doubled in the 70th minute with the goal of Gareth Bale. However, the credit of the goal should also be given to Kyle Walker who got rid of two defenders to bring the ball near the box. Then, he passed the ball to Bale who made no mistake in deflecting the ball into the goal post. Just four minutes later, Defoe scored his second goal in the match to take his team ahead by 3-0. In the 78th minute, Defoe was substituted by Clint Dempsey who made his debut for Tottenham. The Reading players didn’t manage to reduce the lead in the remaining time and got beaten by a profound margin.

QPR CHASE DEFOE

QPR have been looking to sign some high profile players in the summer transfer window and they have been quite successful in bringing some of them as well. Even after the arrival of players like Fabio Da Silva, it seems that the club are not satisfied.

The new vice-chairman of the club Amit Bhatia has revealed that they are looking at both Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe and former Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy as potential signings before the transfer window closes. Immediately after the takeover of the Malaysian businessman Tony Fernandes, QPR have been looking to break into the European positions.

It is expected that the plethora of arrivals in the new transfer window will aid the club in the progression through the table. QPR survived in the Premier league by the skin of their teeth, despite the last day defeat at the hands of Manchester city. QPR will be hoping that they will not have to face another relegation fight this season and the quality of players they are attracting is a testament to this fact. Yet, their summer shopping spree is not over after the VP admitted that he would like to bring in two more strikers into the club.

“It would be hard to speculate at this point [on Defoe’s transfer status]. It’s not the right thing to do. Mark likes to have a long list of players! We’ll see what happens. Many of the players we are after potentially have interest from other clubs also. Craig [Bellamy] is definitely a name that has been mentioned, a name we’ve discussed. There are a few options. Craig Bellamy for the last few years, ever since he became available, thats not to say we have not been fans of other players,” said Bhatia in response to the next transfer targets for the club.

DEFOE NEARLY MOVED IN JANUARY

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has revealed that he came extremely close to leaving Tottenham in the January transfer window.

The England striker has grown frustrated about the lack of opportunities at Tottenham due to the fact that they have Emmanuel Adebayor as their main striker. Even though the former Arsenal man is currently on a loan deal from Manchester City, Harry Redknapp is prepared to play him over the Spurs player Jermain Defoe.

Due to the fact that the Euro 2012 is just around the corner, Jermain Defoe revealed that he wanted to leave the club in the January transfer window in order to get regular first-team football.

It has been a very frustrating season for Defoe because he has managed only 11 Premier league starts all season long, while 13 appearances have come on as a substitute. The arrival of Everton striker Louis Saha in the January transfer window only served to undermine his importance to the club. Defoe is in his second spell at Tottenham, and has revealed that he is very likely to leave the club at the end of the season. The former West Ham striker is unlikely to travel to Poland and Ukraine to take part in the Euro 2012.

‘I didnt want to leave. I dont go thinking, I want to go to this club or that club. But in January I just wasnt playing enough and I did go to the manager and ask to go out on loan. He said to me, I dont want you to go out on loan. We are trying to do something special here. Dont go. And so I stayed. And I worked hard to keep myself sharp. But still I havent had that run of games. It still feels like I will only get a game if someone is injured or suspended,” said Defoe.

DEFOE NETS TWICE

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe proved his worth just at the right time for Tottenham after he scored two goals in a match against Stevenage, which helped the North London club to get into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Stevenage managed to hold out Tottenham to a 1-1 draw in the match, which led to the replay for Tottenham. Harry Redknapp was extremely keen to win this match and progress to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, despite the fact that the prospect of finishing in the fourth place in the league was far more important.

Jermain Defoe has been unable to get into the Tottenham side in recent weeks, which has led to speculation linking him with a move back in January. However, the England striker stayed with the London club and he was rewarded with a start against Stevenage in the FA Cup.

He repaid the faith manager Harry Redknapp had in him by scoring two goals, with Adebayor getting the other goal in between the two Jermain Defoe strikes. There was a major shock on the cards when Stevenage took the lead through Byrom in the fourth minute, but Defoe equalised in the 25th minute and secured the brace in the 75th minute.

“There are not many top strikers around – if there’s a problem area in the [England] team, that’s it. He’s right up there with the best of them so he must have a great chance [of being selected],” manager Harry Redknapp said about the chances for Jermain Defoe to get into the England squad for the Euro 2012. The striker has scored 15 goals in just 29 appearances for Tottenham. Even more interesting is the fact that he has made 15 goals from just the 17 starts he has made, but the arrival of Adebayor has reduced his chances.

DEFOE PRAISES HARRY

Jermain Defoe, the Tottenham striker has recently reported that their managed Harry Redknapp has been quite inspirational throughout the matches and this has been one of the major reasons why Tottenham has managed to stand a position to win the title cup.

Defoe has worked with Harry for over 7 years and has hence managed to understand each and every character trait of this enthusiastic manager.

Defoe has been quite a regular in Redknapp’s team selection and hence has been able to understand the ins and outs of this manager. He feels that Harry has this sense of aura that spreads to all those who are associated with him and this is what help each and every player to build their confidence. Harry always knows the ways to get the best out of all the players and this goes a long way in ensuring that the players put in their 100 percent effort.

The best thing about Harry is that he does not differentiate with age and finds and maximizes the talents of skilled players irrespective of their age and other factors.

Giving motivational speeches has been Harry’s forte and he makes each and every player love the game. Jermain Defoe truly considers Harry as his hero.
